"Yes. The urethral suppository was compounded with the antibiotic Macrobid and the steroid hydrocortisone. I had viscous lidocaine to "dip" the suppository into prior to insertion. I'm an RN and have inserted foley catheters and done straight caths on patients but finding my own urethra was a bit intimidating for me. After the first few suppositories, my husband ended up inserting the remaining suppositories on "treatment nights". It was easier for me to have him do it. The suppository came wrapped in foil and then ya just unwrapped it, dipped into the lidocaine (which in my opinion did nothing to help soothe anything) and then insert and hold finger over urethra so the slippery little thing didn't pop out. We gave it 10-15 minutes to be absorbed and then I tried to get to sleep. I have kept my gen practice MD current with what's up and when the suppositories arrived in the mail... I took them with me to show him and asked for Xanax to take prior to each treatment. My urogyn had said "no, you really don't need anything like that". I'd never personally taken a Xanax but thought if I had a patient needing to do this to herself, I'd definitely encourage something to help her relax and so I wanted something to help me. I believe the Xanax mainly helped me to fall asleep soon after the 15 minutes were up and so that was helpful"
